we are excited to announce the launch of the nelson mandela bay internet exchange point (NMBINX), the newest addition to INX-ZA's community-run ixp services. the first node of the NMBINX is located in the city of gqeberha, at the dimension data facility in newton park, and will be operational from the first week in june 2023. to promote interconnection in the region, the INX-ZA INXCOM has waived port fees, and the colocation facility has waived monthly recurring fees for cross-connects.
the NMBINX offers network operators in the eastern cape region the opportunity to improve their internet connectivity and performance by connecting to other local networks, content providers, and cloud service providers through a single peering point. this will result in faster and more efficient routing of traffic, reduced latency, and improved network resilience.
to ensure that participants are able to make the most of this new ixp, we are offering two rounds of training. the first training session will be held on may 9 and will focus on understanding how peering allows network operators to operate their networks more efficiently and effectively. this session will cover the basics of peering, how to prepare your network to peer effectively, and techniques for scaling your network. participants will also have the opportunity to discuss their specific needs, and book a dedicated session with our team on may 10.
the second training session will be held closer to the launch date of the NMBINX and will provide participants with a more detailed understanding of how to connect to the exchange, configure their networks, and troubleshoot any issues that may arise. operators that are looking for more advanced topics like best practices routing security techniques, and dealing with denial of service attacks, should also consider attending these.
we believe that the NMBINX will play an important role in promoting the growth and development of the internet ecosystem in the eastern cape region, and we are committed to ensuring that participants have the knowledge and support they need to make the most of this new opportunity.
